Oscar & En Passant

Keeping track of Oscar and En Passant as they sail Hong Kong waters, exploring their small patch of the South China Sea. Oscar is a Kong & Halvorsen-built Island Gypsy, En Passant a custom-designed Cheoy Lee ketch. Both were built in Hong Kong in the early eighties, at a time when the Crown Colony's shipwrights were renowned the world over for their professionalism and flair. What keeps these classics going in the age of carbon spars and multihulls? For a start, they still sail beautifully, built as they were to outlast their successive owners, without a thought for programmed obsolescence. Just as importantly, they have great style, a quality of timeless elegance that becomes more apparent with every passing year. To experience them first hand, pay us a visit on taipancharters.com
